flight of hazaras - refugees twice

After decades of societal malaise caused by one-party rule, Myanmar's people took to the streets in 1988. Soon afterwards, the democratic forces won the country’s first general elections since 1960. Both the uprising and the elections were violently repressed by the military. Minorities, hoping for representation,  decided to fight the Burmese rule. Many independence fighters hid in remote mountain leading the fight from there. Peter, a Kachin teacher, tells us the story of his childhood and about modern-day Myanmar and the ethnic struggles within.
